Hoi An Vietnam - Making Stuff
I made my first trip to Vietnam this month and chose Hoi An as I’ve always heard how beautiful and charming it is. I definitely enjoyed it but I think sometimes it’s smarter to not wait a long time to visit a place. I had built it up in my imagination as a quiet, preserved incredibly beautiful little town. It’s small, but the secret is out, there were tons of tourists in the streets, especially in the evenings.
The lanterns hanging everywhere are gorgeous, and they make the evenings extra pretty. We even took a lantern making class which was meditative and relaxing. The Lantern Lady has a small shop and gives personal instruction. In less than 2 hours we had beautiful lanterns to take home.
The accidental part of our trip turned out to be the most fun. We were led into the fabric market by a man hired by the government to do just that, but being tourists in this case was just fine. We ended up (4 women) having clothing made for each of us, from dresses to suits to linen pants, we each created our own ideas, had measurements taken, returned in less than 24 hours for alterations and left with custom items we all loved. Not planning it made it all the more exciting and amazing to us.
We had yummy Vietnamese food, from Bahn Mi sandwiches on the lightest baguettes ever to healing morning Pho, it was a quick 3 days that left me wanting more.
I know there is so much more to see in this beautiful country, I hope to get back and see more of it soon.
