DNG Retreat - Javea Spain
I’ve been working remotely for about 15 months, traveling all over the place. It’s been amazing and I’ve been looking for people to connect with that do the same thing. Many of the groups that travel or meet up are much younger than me and are mostly tech men. I was really excited to find a few women’s groups, like Digital Nomad Girls. I joined the Facebook Group and noticed they were holding a retreat in Javea, Spain at Sun and Co. I had been in contact with Sun and Co for about a year, trying to find dates that worked for a visit. This seemed ideal, I could finally visit Javea and do a retreat for women Digital Nomads at the same time. I signed up for the DNG Retreat and went.
I don’t know how to express just how great this was. 20 women ages 22-55 attended. We connected a bit beforehand on our Facebook group, doing short introductions of ourselves. I connected with 2 women at the airport immediately, recognizing them from the online intros. We arrived at Sun and Co, a Co-working/Co-Living space in Javea, Spain. It’s a beautiful facility in the Old Town area, an architecturally modern, open, usable space for living, working and hanging out. The enclosed courtyard gets beautiful light but not too much direct sunlight, also great for working and hanging out.
The event itself was very well organized. From the workbook to guide us through the 10 days of scheduled events to the opening exercises to all the sessions for developing your personal projects, to the outings for meals and snorkeling, things were never dull or unclear. Everything was optional as well, so if you needed to work, that was totally fine and understood.
The group was incredibly generous contributing their knowledge in the areas they specialized in and giving feedback in general in the sessions tailored for each person. The bonding was fun and constant. I was so impressed with these mostly young women. They were bright, independent, fun, great communicators, generous with their information and always open to contribute to each other.
I came away feeling encouraged, supported and loaded with information and contacts for my own projects. We also set up groups for follow up and continued support. I’m only sorry I waited so long to do something like this, I’ll definitely do it again. It’s great to have found a part of my tribe, people that understand the value of traveling through life, never knowing where it will take you. I have new friends to meet up with and visit and couldn’t be more grateful for it.
